Again "Good" Q2 2013 for IAC Personals, will wait and see Q3

The weak point is: they are relying much on Tinder, a Badoo clone for casual dating.
The unexploited Latin American Market remains enormous!

IAC Personals
Core, Meetic and Developing revenue for the current year period was USD116.1 million, USD54.8 million and USD23.4 million, respectively. (Compare with Q1 2013). Not sure if they plan to close Chemistry.

Core consists of Match in the United States, Chemistry and People Media.
Meetic consists of the publicly traded personals company Meetic S.A., excluding Twoo.
Developing includes OkCupid, DateHookup, Twoo and Match's international operations, excluding Meetic S.A.

"And Match continues to show the strength of our portfolio approach. Just look at the past few months. If you're in New York, LA, or any number of other cities, all you hear about is our newest product, Tinder, with rapid user growth domestically and growing momentum internationally. But the success of Tinder isn't cannibalizing Match. During the same period Tinder has been thriving, our Core business growth is accelerating. And a similar dynamic's been playing out with OkCupid over the last stretch of years. From year end 2009 through the end of Q2 2013, OkCupid increased its monthly active users by 250% (from an already significant base), while during the same period, Match increased core subscribers by a very healthy 60%. Services like Tinder and OkCupid acclimate new groups of people to meeting online. That meaningfully expands the market. And once people have used technology to meet other people, no matter what the service was they initially used, a barrier's been broken and they're more likely to do it again. Almost 50% of first time Match subscribers have previously used another service for meeting someone online. So the more people we can get to try these services, whether we own them or not, the more likely they are to use our other services. Of course, it's better when we own them, thus our multi-product approach.

And that's not to say these sites simply work as acquisition tools for our Core business. Far from it. As I mentioned on the last call, we're meaningfully increasing the contribution from these businesses. During the same period OkCupid grew monthly users 250%, it grew monthly revenue by 700%, and it's now a meaningful contributor to this business. Tinder is early stage, we're not monetizing it now, and we probably won't monetize it in earnest for a while, but I assure you if its growth continues and it truly takes hold, it's going to be a very valuable asset.

Up to now, the portfolio's been primarily a North American story, but we think it'll also work in other markets. As I mentioned last time, Twoo, which we bought in January, adds a second brand in Europe, and we'll likely add others. The same in Latin America. I really think we'll reach a point where everyone single will be using technology in some way to help them make romantic connections, and it's been proven time and again, really over the history of the internet, that this is one of the things people are willing to pay for online, even when there are free alternatives. So we're confident our multiple products, multiple price points, multiple business models and global reach are going to put us in an optimal position to keep capturing a big part of that expanding activity."

The HEXACO model of personality structure

The HEXACO Model of Personality conceptualizes human personality in terms of six dimensions.

The HEXACO model of personality structure is a six-dimensional model of human personality that was created by Ashton and Lee based on findings from a series of lexical studies involving several European and Asian languages. The six factors, or dimensions, include Honesty-Humility (H), Emotionality (E), Extraversion (X), Agreeableness (A), Conscientiousness (C), and Openness to Experience (O)

The HEXACO model of personality is, of course, an oversimplification like the Big5 model, good enough to guidance/orientation purposes but not good enough for predictive purposes.
"Because the Big Five groups the more specific primary-level factors, feedback organized around the five Global Factor scales is more easily understood. For detailed feedback or predictive purposes, one should assess the more specific primary factors. Research has shown that more specific factors like the primary scales of the 16PF Questionnaire predict actual behavior better than the Big 5 Global Factors. For example, one extravert (a bold, fearless, high-energy type) may differ considerably from another (a sweet, warm, sensitive type), depending on the extraversion-related primary scale score patterns, so deeper analysis is typically warranted." The Swiss 16PT is NOT the same as the 16PF5 test

WorldWide, there are over 5,000 -five thousand- online dating sites
but no one is using the 16PF5 (or similar) to assess personality of its members!
but no one calculates similarity with a quantized pattern comparison method!
but no one can show Compatibility Distribution Curves to each and every of its members!
but no one is scientifically proven! The only way to revolutionize the Online Dating Industry is using the 16PF5 normative personality test, available in different languages to assess personality of members, or a proprietary test with exactly the same traits of the 16PF5 and expressing compatibility with eight decimals (needs a quantized pattern comparison method, part of pattern recognition by cross-correlation, to calculate similarity between prospective mates.)
High precision in matching algorithms is precisely the key to open the door and leave the infancy of compatibility testing.
It is all about achieving the eighth decimal!
With 8 decimals, you have more precision than any person could achieve by searching on one's own, but the only way to achieve the eighth decimal is using analysis and correlation with quantized patterns.

Without offering the NORMATIVE16PF5 (or similar test measuring exactly the 16 personality factors) for serious dating, it will be impossible to innovate and revolutionize the Online Dating Industry All other proposals are NOISE and perform as placebo.

The 3rd death of eHarmony Brazil!!!

eHarmony Brazil suffered its 3rd death!!! It was launched 3 long years ago, but the team never understood the Latin American market and culture! or perhaps they were more worried about their golf scores than their company's long term strategy and innovations.

eHarmony is not "scientifically proven" because eHarmony Labs had never proven eHarmony's matching algorithm can match prospective partners who will have more stable and satisfying relationships -and very low divorce rates- than couples matched by chance, astrological destiny, personal preferences, searching on one's own, or other technique as the control group in a peer reviewed Scientific Paper for the majority (over 90%) of eHarmony's members.
Moreover the entire Online Dating Industry for serious daters in 1st World Countries is a HOAX, performing as a Big Online Casino, with a low effectiveness/efficiency level of their matching algorithms (less than 10%), in the same range as searching by your own.

eHarmony's members are like gamblers in a Big Online Casino, the ones who can win are less than 10% of them.
The majority of eHarmony's members are not going to succeed. They are going to fail in reaching a long term monogamous relationship with commitment. Wasting time and money!

Tinder: Badoo clone, casual dating

Just reading again this 2 years old post where it is explained that "the OkCupid team signed a deal to stay on for a year and is focused building a Badoo clone that will get profiles via facebook to compete in " the casual dating / social dating space.

Tinder, dating application from IAC, for casual dating. "online dating" is a broad concept to define a large group of different proposals.
Social dating is vaporware. Online Dating for serious daters does not need to be more social, it needs to be more effective/efficient. It needs to reduce the false positives problem.

Zoosk: fake profiles or using pseudos ???

I suspect Zoosk  is full of fake profiles or using pseudos to attract prospective subscribers.

If Zoosk plans its IPO, I plan to denounce Zoosk at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for fraud. Zoosk's Scientific Matchmaking Service (ZSMS) is a HOAX.

PlentyOfFish (POF) imminent IPO ???

Cold Winter soon here, in South America.

Recently I had posted about "Zoosk imminent IPO ??? "

A little birdie from North America could not come to my window to talk, and he sent me an email instead saying "POF's IPO imminent as well as Zoosk's".  2 years long negotiations with the IAC, parent company of Match for nothing? The problem was the high price.

Zoosk, Badoo and other social dating sites

Zoosk and Badoo seem to be the only alive social dating sites, but they are only for casual dating, for instant gratification; not for serious dating. They are using dishonest tactics to attract prospective paid members.

Other social dating sites closed and wasted tons of money because social discovering / social dating is illusory/vaporware.
People do not pay for social discovering, for finding new friends, they will pay only for high effective compatibility matching.
See failed proposals like

Behavioural matching from social dating is a complete waste of time, because behavioural matching can not outperform personality matching methods.  Now in 2013 I think C-Level executives from the Online Dating Industry do not want to innovate and offer a high effective/efficiency compatibility matching algorithm, because they are like burglars who are stealing the money of the daters, they scam daters with automatic rebilling trickery.

The entire Online Dating Industry for serious daters in 1st World Countries is a HOAX, performing as a Big Online Casino, with a low effectiveness/efficiency level of their matching algorithms (less than 10%), in the same range as searching by your own.
Actual online dating sites offering compatibility matching methods are only fueled by big marketing budgets and not by serious scientific evidence. No one ( eHarmony, Chemistry, PerfectMatch, PlentyOfFish Chemistry Predictor, MeeticAffinity, Be2, RewardingLove, Parship, True, etc) can prove its matching algorithm can match prospective partners who will have more stable and satisfying relationships than couples matched by chance, astrological destiny, personal preferences, searching on one's own, or other technique as the control group in a peer_reviewed Scientific Paper for the majority (over 90%) of their members.

They are all like placebo, as:
* Actual online dating sites offering compatibility matching methods, when calculating compatibility between prospective mates, have less or at least the same precision as searching on one's own. [in the range of 3 or 4 persons compatible per 1,000 persons screened]
* That is because they use:
a) simplified versions of personality traits, instead of the 16PF5 or similar with the complete inventory (16 variables)
b) inadequate quantitative methods to calculate compatibility between prospective mates.

To solve that problem I propose:
1) the 16PF5 or similar normative personality test to measure personality of normal persons over 26 years old interested in serious dating.
No actual online dating site offering compatibility matching methods uses the 16PF5 normative test available in different languages.
2) a new quantitative method to calculate compatibility between prospective mates, based on quantized pattern comparison (part of pattern recognition by correlation)
The value of my algorithm is to achieve far more precision than searching on one's own [in the range of 3 persons compatible per 100,000 persons screened, 100 times better than actual competitors]

Zoosk's Behavioral Matchmaking

Please read before reading this post: Zoosk imminent IPO ???

Remember the "famous" Synapse Algorithm from Match?
or
UltraMatch from PlentyOfFish (POF)?

Checking now Zoosk's Behavioral Matchmaking ==  Zoosk's Scientific Matchmaking Service (ZSMS)

What is Zoosk's Scientific Matchmaking Service (ZSMS)?
Zoosk's Scientific Matchmaking Service (ZSMS) is a patent-pending technology that evaluates compatibility between Zoosk members and makes match recommendations. ZSMS is smart. It learns from "yes" and "no" responses to make better match recommendations in the future.

How can I improve my results?
Follow three simple steps to improve your results:

1) Keep voting "yes" and "no" on new matches to guide ZSMS in the right direction. ZSMS is designed to learn from user feedback, so keep voting.
2) Make sure the information on your profile is accurate. Fill in as much of your profile as possible with useful and interesting information to help others get to know you.
3) If your primary photo is not a clear shot of you, upload a better photo and make it primary.

Behavioural matching: complete waste of time, because behavioural matching can not outperform personality matching methods.

Personality Based Recommender Systems are the next generation of recommender systems because they perform far better than Behavioural ones (past actions and pattern of personal preferences)
That is the only way to improve recommender systems, to include the personality traits of their users. They need to calculate personality similarity between users but there are different formulas to calculate similarity.
Recommender systems are morphing to ......... compatibility matching engines, as the same used in the Online Dating Industry since years, with low success rates, because they mostly use the Big5 to assess personality and the Pearson correlation coefficient to calculate similarity.
(Personality traits are highly stable in persons over 25 years old to 45 years old)

Which is the RIGHT approach to innovate in the Personality Based Recommender Systems Arena?
The same approach to innovate in the Online Dating Industry == 16PF5 test or similar to assess personality traits and a new method to calculate similarity between quantized patterns.

Innovations are not adding more bells and whistles to actual online dating sites.

"online dating" is a broad concept to define a large group of different proposals.

The Online Dating Industry needs Innovations, but the innovations the Online Dating Industry needs will come from only one source: the latest discoveries in theories of romantic relationships development with commitment.

Zoosk imminent IPO ?

Keating Capital had invested in Zoosk last March 2012 and now it seems it is planning Zoosk IPO.
I thought they were half dead, because its press releases page is freezed since 2011. Zoosk was hacked this March 2013.

Zoosk, the 6 years old "romantic social network",  is not a Scientific Matchmaking Service/System.
Zoosk is a bubble, only supported by big marketing budget.
Zoosk competitor's Badoo is collapsing now.

The Simpsons, Apple, Facebook, LinkedIn, WordPress, Google, Hotmail, Yahoo, YouTube, Blogger, Wikipedia, Bing, Twitter, Skype are BIG successes in Argentina!!!
I have the theory that if something is successful in Argentina, it could be a success in the World.
If it can NOT be a success here in Argentina, it will definitely NOT be a success in the World.

NO online dating company (for serious daters) has success here in Argentina nor Brazil or other Latin American country.

Match Japan, NEW redesign

The people of IAC - Match, had redesigned Match Japan.
No more the Chemistry inside feature.
Now they promote to submit dating ideas to meet offline (DateSpark).
As usual in Japan, members can add certificates for ID verification and to show proof of their jobs in their profiles (employment certificate can perform as a background check if the employer had checked criminal records).

See older version.

Paid online dating sites have high acquisition costs, they can not abandon the attracting, converting and retaining marketing stages; the automatic renewal of their members's subscriptions with dirty credit-card billing trickery.

I seriously doubt the IAC is earning money in Japan.

The people of IAC, instead of innovating, patched Match Japan!

Now in 2013 I think C-Level executives from the Online Dating Industry do not want to innovate and offer a high effective/efficiency compatibility matching algorithm.

PAPER: "The adaptive power of the present . . . "

The adaptive power of the present: Perceptions of past, present, and future life satisfaction across the life span

Abstract
Despite remarkable stability of life satisfaction across the life span, it may be adaptive to perceive change in life satisfaction. We shed new light on this topic with data from 766 individuals from three age groups and past, present, and future life satisfaction perceptions across the life span. On average, participants were most satisfied with their current life. When looking back, satisfaction increased from past to present, and when looking ahead, satisfaction decreased into the future. Trajectories were best fitted with a curvilinear growth model. Neuroticism and extraversion predicted the level of trajectories, but none of the Big Five predicted the slope. We conclude that humans have an adaptive capacity to perceive the present life as being the best possible.

[Remember the Big5 is good for guidance purposes, nor for prediction]

The present study adopts the idea of a human adaptive capacity in an attempt to reinterpret the predominantly stable high levels of subjective well-being across the adult life span. We believe that individuals possess an adaptive self-regulatory capacity to perceive oneself at the current time in life in the best psychological situation in order to maintain a self-consistent view of oneself.
This is similar to what Quoidbach, Gilbert, and Wilson (2013) recently called "end of history illusion". They found that individuals of all ages have a general misconception about future changes and believe that although they have changed a lot in the past, there is not much more change to expect in the future. The authors conclude that individuals in young, middle-aged, and older adulthood think that their present self is the person they will remain for the rest of their lives.

* Personality traits are highly stable in persons over 25 years old to 45 years old (the group of persons who could be most interested in serious online dating) They have only minor changes in personality (less than 1 interval in a normative test) and the 16PF5 test will not "see" them because the output of the 16PF5 test are 16 variables STens (Standard Tens) taking integer values from 1 to 10. STens divide the score scale into ten units. STens have the advantage that they enable results to be thought of in terms of bands of scores, rather than absolute raw scores. These bands are narrow enough to distinguish statistically significant differences between candidates, but wide enough not to over emphasize minor differences between candidates.

Now in 2013 I think C-Level executives from the Online Dating Industry do not want to innovate and offer a high effective/efficiency compatibility matching algorithm, because they are like burglars who are stealing the money of the daters, they scam daters with automatic rebilling trickery.

PAPER: "Personality profiles and health: Longitudinal evidence among Finnish adults"

Excellent paper: "Personality profiles and health: Longitudinal evidence among Finnish adults"

"This study investigates the associations of longitudinal Big Five personality profiles with long-term health in 304 adults (53% males). Personality traits (Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness, Conscientiousness, Agreeableness) were assessed at ages 33, 42, and 50. Subjective (self-rated health, symptoms, psychological distress) and objective (body mass index, waist-to-hip ratio, blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides) indicators of health were measured at ages 42 and 50.
Five longitudinally stable personality profiles were extracted over 17 years by latent profile analysis. The levels of traits were the same in each profile at each age. Resilient individuals (N = 65; Neuroticism low, other traits high) had the best subjective health and Overcontrolled individuals (N = 40; Neuroticism high, other traits low) the poorest health over eight years. Reserved individuals (N = 25; high Conscientiousness, other traits low), Undercontrolled (N = 41; high Openness and Extraversion, low Conscientiousness), and Ordinary (N = 133; all traits scored medium) individuals were in the middle of these extremes in subjective health. No differences between the profiles were found in the objective indicators of health. Thus, overcontrol and resilience were most discriminative in terms of good health. Moreover, personality profiles revealed associations with health to be more nuanced than simply being composed of single traits. High Extraversion needed to be combined with high Conscientiousness (Resilients) in order to be associated with the best health; high Extraversion with low Conscientiousness (Undercontrolled) was associated with average health; and low Extraversion with high Neuroticism (Overcontrolled) was associated with the poorest health.
"

Your personality is predictor of your (subjective) health in the future;
Personality is also predictor of job performance,
Personality is also a good predictor of Entrepreneurial skills.
