The "Grupo de Delitos Telemáticos" (GDT) / Telematics Crimes Group (a division of the Unidad Central Operativa de la Guardia Civil) was set up to investigate all those crimes committed over the Internet.
Its origin dates back to 1996.

With the socialization of Internet and the growth of criminal acts, its range of investigative powers was increased, reaching all those delinquent behaviors through information systems or against them, which is popularly known as cybercrime.

The main effort of the GDT has been, since its creation, to investigate crime that uses networks and information systems for its commission. Also it is worth noting the efforts to promote the safe use of new technologies, knowing that eventually that effort will help minimize the impact of crime.
