Academics from all over the World had begun to publish Scientific Research using the HEXACO (a.k.a. Big Six personality model) and not more the Big Five personality model.
The Big Five normative test, had been proven/revealed as an incomplete and incorrect model to assess/measure personality of persons.

Brief Report: Cross-sectional age differences in the HEXACO personality: Results from a Japanese sample.

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0092656616300125

Highlights

•The present study investigated age differences in personality in Japanese adults.
•The level of Emotionality was negatively associated with age.
•The level of Honesty–Humility was positively associated with age.
•Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness were not associated with the participant age.

Abstract

Little research has been conducted on personality development in non-Western countries. The present study investigated age differences in personality in Japanese middle adults (N = 2000; M = 40.94 years; SD = 5.35, range 30–49; 1000 women). After controlling for educational level, annual income, marital status, and gender, it was found that the level of Emotionality was negatively associated with age. Honesty–Humility, on the other hand, was positively associated with age. However, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness were not associated with the participant age. These findings suggest that trends in personality development may differ slightly between Western and non-Western countries.

The normative BIG5 model (a.k.a. Big Five, FFI, FFM, Five Factor Model, OCEAN model) used at many online dating sites with questionnaires to measure personality of daters had been proven/revealed as an incomplete and incorrect model to assess personality of persons. Now it was replaced by HEXACO test, a.k.a Big Six test. The BIG5 normative personality test is the biggest mistake Psychologists made since several years ago. The BIG5 is also known as the Five Factor Model theory of personality traits, a psychological model based on research by Paul Costa and Robert McCrae.

Please remember: Personality traits are highly stable in persons over 25 years old to 45 years old (the group of persons who could be most interested in serious online dating) They have only minor changes in personality (less than 1 interval in a normative test) and the 16PF5 test will not "see" them because the output of the 16PF5 test are 16 variables STens (Standard Tens) taking integer values from 1 to 10. STens divide the score scale into ten units. STens have the advantage that they enable results to be thought of in terms of bands of scores, rather than absolute raw scores. These bands are narrow enough to distinguish statistically significant differences between candidates, but wide enough not to over emphasize minor differences between candidates.

The key to long-lasting romance is STRICT PERSONALITY SIMILARITY

But many online dating sites like eHarmony and its copycats like eDarling / EliteSingles, TeAmoRU, MiMediaManzana, eSynchrony and other are HOAXES.

eHarmony, is a 15+ years old obsolete site and a HOAX, based on a big scientific fraud, only sustained by big marketing budget.  eHarmony is using the Big Five (Big5) normative test that was revealed as incomplete, incorrect and obsolete personality test. It was replaced by the Big Six a.k.a HEXACO test.
Also eHarmony has no Scientific proof its algorithm is better than searching by your own!

about article "Work Wanted: IBM Watson program offers personality insights to employees"

http://jacksonville.com/news/metro/2015-04-08/story/work-wanted-ibm-watson-program-offers-personality-insights-employees

"The analysis is based on the “Big 5” personality traits used by social scientists: openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism. It also provides information on a range of emotions, such as fiery, immoderate, melancholy and prone to stress. Finally, Watson adds on needs this individual may have, such as challenge, closeness, harmony, liberty and love. Presumably, if you want to connect on an emotional level with a customer, to recruit or sell to someone, you could craft messages that speak the right language. "

Unfortunately the Big Five normative personality test is obsolete, it has been proven as an incomplete and incorrect model of personality. The HEXACO (a.k.a. Big Six) is another oversimplification.

Personality Based Recommender Systems are the next generation of recommender systems because they perform far better than Behavioural ones (past actions and pattern of personal preferences)
That is the only way to improve recommender systems, to include the personality traits of their users. They need to calculate personality similarity between users but there are different formulas to calculate similarity.

In case you did not notice, recommender systems are morphing to compatibility matching engines, as the same used in the Online Dating Industry for years, with low success rates!!! because they mostly use the Big 5 to assess personality and the Pearson correlation coefficient to calculate similarity.
Please remember: Personality traits are highly stable in persons over 25 years old to 45 years old.

Online Dating sites OFFERING COMPATIBILITY MATCHING METHODS BASED ON PERSONALITY SIMILARITY have very big databases, in the range of 20,000,000 (twenty million) profiles, so the Big Five model or the HEXACO model are not enough for predictive purposes. That is why I suggest the 16PF5 normative personality test instead.
The same applies for Personality Based Recommender Systems.

PAPER: The personality systems framework: Current theory and development

http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0092656614001214?

"Highlights
• Most personality psychologists are systems theorists and draw on general systems theory.
• The personality systems framework covers: (a) personality’s definition, (b) its parts, (c) organization, (d) development.
• I illustrate the four topics of the framework by drawing on examples from the theory of personal intelligence.
• The personality systems framework draws lightly on theories from the field to enhance its depiction of personality.
• The personality systems framework describes the discipline and provides formal models of personality."

Similarity is a word that has different meanings for different persons or companies, it exactly depends on how mathematically is defined. In case you had not noticed, recommender systems are morphing to .......... compatibility matching engines, as the same used in the Online Dating Industry since years, with low success rates until now because they mostly use the BIG 5 to assess personality and the Pearson correlation coefficient to calculate similarity.
The BIG 5 (Big Five) normative personality test is obsolete. The HEXACO (a.k.a. Big Six) is another oversimplification. Online Dating sites have very big databases, in the range of 20,000,000 (twenty million) profiles, so the BIG 5 model or the HEXACO model are not enough for predictive purposes. That is why I suggest the 16PF5 test instead and another method to calculate similarity. I calculate similarity in personality patterns with (a proprietary) pattern recognition by correlation method. It takes into account the score and the trend to score of any pattern. Also it takes into account women under hormonal treatment because several studies showed contraceptive pills users make different mate choices, on average, compared to non-users. "Only short-term but not long-term partner preferences tend to vary with the menstrual cycle".

Worldwide there are over 5,000 online dating sites, no one uses the 16PF petsonality test, no one is scientifically proven yet, and no one can show you compatibility distribution curves, i.e. if you are a man seeking women, to show how compatible you are with a 20,000,000 women database, and to select a bunch of 100 women from 20,000,000 women database.

How the Big Five (Big 5) normative personality test revealed as .... incomplete

Short answer: thanks to commingling analysis.
Commingling analysis is a statistical method for distinguishing between one (usually normal) distribution and a mixture of two or more distributions.

The HEXACO model is replacing the Big Five normative personality test now!

Online dating sites using the Big Five model could be considered obsolete sites, because the Big Five model has been proven as "an incomplete model"
As some of the subdomains of the main domains of the HEXACO model are different from the subdomains of the main domains of the Big Five model, it can not be simple added the scale of the Honesty-Humility factor to the Big Five model to upgrade the personality test to the HEXACO model.  I think, legally, online dating sites using the Big Five model of personality could be considered a FRAUD because they are using an incomplete model of personality. They are assessing 5 scales and not 6 scales.

Online Dating sites have very big databases, in the range of 20,000,000 (twenty million) profiles, so the BIG5 model or the HEXACO model are not enough for predictive purposes. That is why I suggest the 16PF5 test instead.

Also some Psychologists began to encourage the use of other tests for the Online Dating Industry, like:
California Psychological Inventory (CPI)
and
The Millon Index of Personality Styles-Revised (MIPS Revised)

but my best recommendation is, of course, the 16PF5 normative personality test.
Nor the CPI nor the MIPS can outperform the 16PF5.

THE HEXACO PERSONALITY INVENTORY to replace the Big 5 test

The BIG5 normative personality test is the biggest mistake Psychologists made since several years ago. The BIG5 is also known as the Five Factor Model theory of personality traits, a psychological model based on research by Paul Costa and Robert McCrae
BIG5 normative personality test is OBSOLETE

"While the Big-Five has been the dominant approach in personality research for over two decades, recent investigations have identified a sixth independent personality dimension referred to as Honesty-Humility (Ashton & Lee, 2007, 2009). The six independent factors then are: Honesty-Humility (H), Emotionality (E), Extraversion (X), Agreeableness (A), Conscientiousness (C), and Openness to Experience (O). This six dimension model, referred to as the HEXACO model, is argued to account for cross-cultural lexical findings, as well the subtle distinctions between personality traits better than the Big-Five (Ashton & Lee, 2007). The original measurement scale of this model consists of the 60-item HEXACO-60 scale (Ashton & Lee, 2009)."

Online Dating sites have very big databases, in the range of 20,000,000 (twenty million) profiles, so the BIG5 model or the HEXACO model are not enough for predictive purposes.

WorldWide, there are over 5,000 -five thousand- online dating sites
but no one is using the 16PF5 (or similar) to assess personality of its members!
but no one calculates similarity with a quantized pattern comparison method!
but no one can show Compatibility Distribution Curves to each and every of its members!
but no one is scientifically proven!

The only way to revolutionize the Online Dating Industry is using the 16PF5 normative personality test, available in different languages to assess personality of members, or a proprietary test with exactly the same traits of the 16PF5 and expressing compatibility with eight decimals (needs a quantized pattern comparison method, part of pattern recognition by cross-correlation, to calculate similarity between prospective mates.)

12like, visualDNA and a HOAX

12like claims to be scientifically proven, but it is a HOAX

English
http://www.12like.com/media/download/factsheet_about_12like_en.pdf
"The bases is the scientifically proven and psychologically sound 12like Image Personality Test. In this fun, accurate, and easy test, questions are answered exclusively with images. Test results are then summarized in a personality type and high quality individual Matches are proposed."

German
http://www.12like.com/media/download/factsheet_about_12like_de.pdf

"Basis ist der wissenschaftlich und psychologisch fundierte 12like-Bilder-Persönlichkeitstest. Dabei werden Fragen ausschließlich mit Bildern beantwortet. Der Test macht Spaß, ist besonders einfach in der Durchführung und bringt treffsichere Ergebnisse. Das Testergebnis wird in einem Persönlichkeitstyp zusammengefasst und entsprechend passende hochwertige, individuelle Partnervorschläge unterbreitet."

"scientifically proven" should mean the online dating site offering a compatibility matching method can prove its matching algorithm can match prospective partners who will have more stable and satisfying relationships than couples matched by chance, astrological destiny, personal preferences, searching on one's own, or other technique as the control group in a peer_reviewed Scientific Paper.

The test used at 12like is powered by visualDNA
http://designfiles.imagini.net/visualdnaPDFs/VisualDNA_Overview.pdf

VisualDNA: At the overviews of how VisualDNA integrates with Portals and Ad Networks,
page 6 says "Personality Type: Attitudes, Big 5 Categorisation (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, Openness)"

Who independently validated and independently certified how that profiling technology correlates with the Big5? I want to see a paper showing VisualDNA correlates with the Big5 (like the one for the Dewey Color System showing its correlation with the 16PF and the distortion it adds.)

How does VisualDNA compare one pattern with others?
Using solely a linear or logistic multivariate regression equation?

Profiling by music preferences to assess personality
video preferences to assess personality
color preferences to assess personality
bookmarks preferences to assess personality
handwriting analysis to assess personality
purchases and buying trends from credit cards to assess personality
and other methods like them
add distortion to the measurement.

I had invented 2 fake (dummy) profiles to test 12like.

I had accidentally discovered that something is wrong with 12like's compatibility matching algorithm, there is a glitch when it first shows your compatible matches.

See for example, the list of compatible men for the "German" female profile (Bibi) sorted by "Match %"

The screen shows CPUX4FUM is 100% compatible (Er, 36 Jahre, 175 cm, IT professional, Potsdam, Deutschland).

I opened that profile and says
CPUX4FUM is 87% compatible (Er, 36 Jahre, 175 cm, IT professional, Potsdam, Deutschland)

then I had pressed the back button and appeared other compatible persons with high percentage than 87%.

There are 10 personality types and 12like matchs you using some kind of "personality" "similarity".
