Virtual dating on the rise as users seek lockdown love, says Match chief ???
https://onlinedatingsoundbarrier.blogspot.com/2020/06/virtual-dating-on-rise-as-users-seek.html
The key to long-lasting romance: COMPATIBILITY is exactly STRICT PERSONALITY SIMILARITY and not "meet other people with similar interests or political views".
Online Dating sites have very big databases, in the range of 20,000,000 (twenty million) profiles, so the Big Five normative model or the HEXACO normative model are not enough for predictive purposes. That is why I suggest the normative 16PF6 test instead and another method to calculate similarity.
High precision in matching algorithms is precisely the key to open the door and leave the infancy of compatibility testing.
Without offering the NORMATIVE 16PF6 (or similar test measuring exactly the 16 personality factors) for serious dating, it will be impossible to innovate and revolutionize the Online Dating Industry

Dating in the Digital Age
2019 Thesis: Love at First Byte: An Economic Analysis

"Mr Right or Ms Right" or "the one" or "your soulmate" or a "perfectmatch" does not exist! It will only exist a pool of compatible persons, not more than that.
No online dating site can promise you to find you "Mr Right or Ms Right" or "the one" or "your soulmate" or a "perfectmatch".
Moreover the person you are looking for does not exist or if it exist, he/she does not want to meet you because your are not compatible.
Please notice: The key to long-lasting romance: COMPATIBILITY is exactly STRICT PERSONALITY SIMILARITY and not "meet other people with similar interests or political views".
Online Dating sites have very big databases, in the range of 20,000,000 (twenty million) profiles, so the Big Five model or the HEXACO model are not enough for predictive purposes. That is why I suggest the 16PF6 test instead and another method to calculate similarity.

Without offering the NORMATIVE 16PF6 (or similar test measuring exactly the 16 personality factors) for serious dating, it will be impossible to innovate and revolutionize the Online Dating Industry.
WorldWide, there are over 5,000 (five thousand) online dating sites:
- but no one is using the 16PF6 (or similar) to assess personality of its members!
- but no one calculates similarity with a quantized pattern comparison method!
- but no one can show Compatibility Distribution Curves to each and every of its members!!! i.e. if you are a man seeking women, to show how compatible you are with a 20,000,000 women database, and to select a bunch of 100 women from 20,000,000 women database.
- but no one is scientifically proven! No actual online dating site is "scientifically proven" because no one can prove its matching algorithm can match prospective partners who will have more stable and satisfying relationships (and very low divorce rates) than couples matched by chance, astrological destiny, personal preferences, searching on one's own, or other technique as the control group in a peer reviewed Scientific Paper for the majority (over 90%) of its members.

2019 Thesis: Love at First Byte: An Economic Analysis
of the Internet Dating Apocalypse
https://scholarship.claremont.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=3312&context=cmc_theses
Please remember:
Gale-Shapley marriage problem is a HOAX. It does not take into account personality similarity between prospective mates.
Also a marriage can be stable, but miserable.
Gale-Shapley marriage problem does not take into account marital satisfaction.
Gale-Shapley marriage problem proposes stable marriage as an economic function (as a complex mental process).
They propose: a stable marriage can be predicted using mainly Gale_Shapley algorithm, General Equilibrium Theory and Non_cooperative Game Theory.
The Gale-Shapley algorithm is not good enough to solve the stable marriage problem because it is based on initial preferences (attraction, fantasies, infatuation) and does not take into account temporal patterns of relationship variables.

The key to long-lasting romance is STRICT PERSONALITY SIMILARITY, but ...
the only way to revolutionize the Online Dating Industry is using the 16PF5 normative personality test, available in different languages to assess personality of members, or a proprietary test with exactly the same traits of the 16PF5 and expressing compatibility with eight decimals (needs a quantized pattern comparison method, part of pattern recognition by cross-correlation, to calculate similarity between prospective mates.)
High precision in matching algorithms is precisely the key to open the door and leave the infancy of compatibility testing.

Featured Thesis: I'm Too Sexy For My Brands
I'm Too Sexy (Exciting, Sophisticated, and Sincere) For My Brands: Menstrual Cycle Effects on Attitudes Toward Brand Personalities
Hormonal changes across women's menstrual cycles are a determinant factor in the types of goods women will consume. During the fertile phase of the menstrual cycle women are more likely to spend money on clothing and beautification products. Conversely, in the luteal (non fertile) phase, women will consume more food and home related products (Durante et al., 2011; Saad and Stenstrom, 2012). The objective of this thesis is to extend past the research on menstrual cycle effects in a consumer setting and explore the relationship between menstrual cycle and brand personalities. It is posited that women will exhibit greater (lower) preferences for brands signalling ‘sexy’, ‘exciting’ and ‘sophisticated’ traits on fertile (luteal) days with a greater (lower) preference for ‘sincere’ brands on luteal (fertile) days. This relationship between menstrual cycle phase (fertile or luteal) and brand personalities is expected to be moderated by the specific individual differences of the participants, namely, with regards to relationship status, brand loyalty, and the participants' propensity to engage in brand signalling.

This relationship between menstrual cycle phase (fertile or luteal) and brand personalities is expected to be moderated by the specific individual differences of the participants, namely, with regards to relationship status, brand loyalty, and the participants' propensity to engage in brand signalling.

The Online Dating Industry needs innovations and should take into account fresh research like several studies showing contraceptive pills users make different mate
choices, on average, compared to non-users. "Only short-term but not
long-term partner preferences tend to vary with the menstrual cycle"

Thesis "Assortative mating in young adult romantic relationships"
Thesis "Assortative mating in young adult romantic relationships" May 2011
"Research on mate selection has often shown that individuals choose romantic partners based on similarity in characteristics, behaviors and traits. The current research in the field of romantic attraction has primarily focused on married, adult populations to determine how individuals select a romantic partner. In this study, a young adult sample in dating relationships was examined to determine whether assortative mating exists for this population, as it seems to in married couples. ... The Mini IPIP was used to determine personality similarity and the Adult Self Report measure was used to determine similarity in problem behavior and substance use. Partners were not similar in personality, but were similar in problem behavior and substance use. Partner dissimilarity in substance use was related to length of relationship. Interestingly, partner dissimilarity in agreeableness was associated with a longer relationship. Partner dissimilarity had no effect on relationship dissolution. "
It is flawed:
* participants were 82 heterosexual unmarried couples, average age was 19.87 years (SD= 1.39) TOO YOUNG The average length of time participants were in their current romantic relationship was 1.59 years (SD= 1.60).
* Mini IPIP was used to determine personality (a 20-item shortened version, Big 5).
* how similarity is calculated (bivariate correlations were used to assess personality similarity).
The milestone German paper "Only the congruent survive - Personality similarities in couples. Personality and Individual Differences" Rammstedt & Schupp (2008) is not even cited.
Please DO remember:
Klohnen & Luo in 2005: "attitude and value similarity may play a different role in relationship development than personality similarity does. For example, whereas similarity in attitudes and values appears to be important early on in the relationship and may play an important role in relationship progression, personality similarity becomes more important as the relationship reaches greater commitment." [The average length of time participants -in the thesis- were in their current romantic relationship was 1.59 years (SD= 1.60)]
The Online Dating Industry needs innovations but they will come from only one source: the latest discoveries in theories of romantic relationships development with commitment.
I) Several studies showing contraceptive pills users make different mate choices, on average, compared to non-users.
II) People often report partner preferences that are not compatible with their choices in real life.
III) Compatibility is all about a high level on personality* similarity* between prospective mates for long term mating with commitment.
*personality measured with a normative test.
*similarity: there are different ways to calculate similarity, it depends on how mathematically is defined.
Also Personality Based Recommender Systems are the next generation of recommender systems because they perform FAR better than Behavioural ones (past actions and pattern of personal preferences). That is the only way to improve recommender systems, to include the personality traits of their users and they need to calculate personality similarity between them.
WorldWide, there are over 5,000 online dating sites
but no one is using the 16PF5 (or similar test) to assess personality of its members.
Without offering the 16PF5 (or similar test measuring exactly the 16 personality factors) for serious dating, it will be impossible to innovate and revolutionize the Online Dating Industry.

Online Dating Thesis
If you had read this thesis from August 2010, remember:
Actual Online Dating sites and many Researchers / Academics are fully intoxicated with different versions of the FFI five factor inventory / Big5 or other proprietary models instead (like Chemistry or PerfectMatch), to measure personality traits, and all of those tests are more simplified versions than the 16PF5 normative personality test.

Thesis about Relationship Satisfaction
Thesis

"AN EXAMINATION OF MODERATORS OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SIMILARITY, COMPLEMENTARITY, AND RELATIONSHIP SATISFACTION"
This study used an idiographic approach to examine the association between similarity or complementarity on valued characteristics and romantic relationship satisfaction. This study also examined how self-liking of a trait is related to importance of similarity or complementarity of a trait. College students and employees of a local outpatient behavioral health center (N = 96) rated their partners on perceived similarity of personality traits, attitudes, interests, and religion; the importance of similarity of these traits; the importance of complementarity of personality traits; and relationship satisfaction. The results revealed significant Similarity x Importance interactions for religion, attitudes, and neuroticism. This suggests that similarity in religion, attitudes, and neuroticism was related to relationship satisfaction only if the participant valued similarity in that dimension. The results also indicated that higher levels of self-liking of a trait were associated with participants' ratings of importance of similarity of a trait, while lower levels of self-liking were associated with participants' ratings of the importance of complementarity of a trait. The results suggested that an idiographic approach may be more suitable than a nomothetic approach for some dimensions of similarity, but not for others.
--------------------------
In compatibility matching methods there are 2 steps:
1) to objectively measure personality traits or other human variables.
2) to calculate compatibility between prospective mates.
Three words with different meanings for different persons or companies!
Compatibility Personality Similarity
Sometimes the word compatibility means a high degree of similarity between several variables (religion, education, income, personality, likes and dislikes, etc.) of prospective mates; sometimes compatibility means a mix of similarity and complementarity between variables; sometimes when a dating site says compatibility or even chemistry, nobody really knows exactly what it means!
Some online dating sites offering compatibility matching methods use the word similarity as: "a proprietary Dyadic Adjustment Scale", others mean: "a proprietary multivariate linear regression equation", some say a mix of similarity and complementarity meaning: "a proprietary multivariate logistic regression equation", still others mix similarity and complementarity meaning: "a proprietary equation to calculate compatibility between prospective mates!"
Personality could be assessed by different methods.
No actual online dating site offering compatibility matching methods uses the 16PF5 normative test available in different languages, the 5th version actualized after Census 2000.

thesis "Scripts For Online Dating: A Model and Theory of Online Romantic Relationship Initiation"
I had read the thesis "Scripts For Online Dating: A Model and Theory of Online Romantic Relationship Initiation" and it is more suitable for an overall "C" than for an "A", because:

1) The author says "My focus is on the process of initiating romantic relationships using dating sites starting with the decision to join a site and ending with the first offline meeting."
but she does not cite the milestone & latest papers in Theories of Romantic Relationships Development like:
Alvergne & Lummaa (2009)
"Does the contraceptive pill alter mate choice in humans?"
Charania & Ickes (2009)
"Personality influences on marital satisfaction: Integrating the empirical evidence using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM) model"
Rammstedt & Schupp (2008)
"Only the congruent survive - Personality similarities in couples. Personality and Individual Differences"
Gangestad & Thornhill (2008)
"Human oestrus"
Barelds & Dijkstra (2008)
"Do People Know What They Want: A Similar or Complementary Partner?"
McCrae, Martin, HrebÃcková, Urbánek, Boomsma et al. (2008)
"Personality Trait Similarity Between Spouses in Four Cultures"
Barelds & Dijkstra (2007)
"Love at first sight or friends first? Ties among partner personality trait similarity, relationship onset, relationship quality, and love"
Gonzaga, Campos & Bradbury (2007)
"Similarity, convergence, and relationship satisfaction in dating and married couples."
Figueredo, Sefcek & Jones (2006)
"The ideal romantic partner personality"
Bekkers, van Aken & Denissen (2006)
"Social Structure and Personality Assortment Among Married Couples"
Gaunt (2006)
"Couple similarity and marital satisfaction: Are similar spouses happier?"
Amodio & Showers (2005)
"Similarity breeds liking revisited: The moderating role of commitment"
2) It mainly analyzes 15 participants from Match, eHarmony and PlentyofFish up to December 2009.
3) The author could not see that:
- Online Dating sites/applications can offer 2 main proposals: fun dating, for flirting, for entertainment purposes, for instant gratification & serious dating, for long term mating with commitment, for marriage with low divorce rates
- Online Dating had evolved: from "Browsing/Searching Options"
to "Recommendation Engines"
and now Online Dating is evolving from "Recommendation Engines"
to "Compatibility Matching Algorithms"
4) The author could not see that actual Online Dating Sites has low success rates for serious daters. The majority of daters will fail in finding someone highly compatible.
5) The author could not rediscover a range convergence phenomenon between the 3 mains tools online dating sites can offer: searching by your own, Bidirectional Recommendation Engines and Compatibility Matching Methods. Any member receives on average 3 to 4 prospective mates as selected / recommended / compatible for dating purposes per 1,000 (one thousand) members screened in the database.
They all 3 are performing the same for serious daters, with a high percentage of false positives, like out of control gun machines shooting flowers.
That range convergence phenomenon is what I had called "the online dating sound barrier", in 2003, when I had discovered than problem, 7 long years ago.
--------------
That thesis is flawed.
Without the internal collaboration of the big online dating sites (like eHarmonyLabs) it will be nearly impossible for any Academic to conduct serious research, but the big sites offering compatibility matching methods are only fueled by big marketing budgets and not by serious scientific evidence.
