A Master Thesis about Memory Based Recommenders

An Analysis of Memory Based Collaborative Filtering Recommender Systems with Improvement Proposals
http://upcommons.upc.edu/pfc/handle/2099.1/22602

Please remember:
Personality Based Recommender Systems are the next generation of recommender systems because they perform far better than Behavioural ones (past actions and pattern of personal preferences)

If you want to be first in the "personalization arena" == Personality Based Recommender Systems, you should understand HOW TO INNOVATE in the ................ Online Dating Industry first of all!

The only way to revolutionize the Online Dating Industry is using the 16PF5 normative personality test, available in different languages to assess personality of members, or a proprietary test with exactly the same traits of the 16PF5 and expressing compatibility with eight decimals (needs a quantized pattern comparison method, part of pattern recognition by cross-correlation, to calculate similarity between prospective mates.)
High precision in matching algorithms is precisely the key to open the door and leave the infancy of compatibility testing.
It is all about achieving the eighth decimal!
With 8 decimals, you have more precision than any person could achieve by searching on one's own, but the only way to achieve the eighth decimal is using analysis and correlationwith quantized patterns.
Without offering the NORMATIVE16PF5 (or similar test measuring exactly the 16 personality factors) for serious dating, it will be impossible to innovate and revolutionize the Online Dating Industry All other proposals are NOISE and perform as placebo.

WorldWide, there are over 5,000 -five thousand- online dating sites
but no one is using the 16PF5 (or similar) to assess personality of its members!
but no one calculates similarity with a quantized pattern comparison method!
but no one can show Compatibility Distribution Curves to each and every of its members!
but no one is scientifically proven!

LIFEPROJECT METHOD: 100X better than eHarmony, not 100% better, 100 times better!

PAPER: A Novel C2C E-Commerce Recommender System

A Novel C2C E-Commerce Recommender System Based on Link Prediction: Applying Social Network Analysis

http://arxiv.org/abs/1407.8365    PDF only

Social network analysis emerged as an important research topic in sociology decades ago, and it has also attracted scientists from various fields of study like psychology, anthropology, geography and economics. In recent years, a significant number of researches has been conducted on using social network analysis to design e-commerce recommender systems. Most of the current recommender systems are designed for B2C e-commerce websites. This paper focuses on building a recommendation algorithm for C2C e-commerce business model by considering special features of C2C e-commerce websites. In this paper, we consider users and their transactions as a network; by this mapping, link prediction technique which is an important task in social network analysis could be used to build the recommender system. The proposed tow-level recommendation algorithm, rather than topology of the network, uses nodes features like: category of items, ratings of users, and reputation of sellers. The results show that the proposed model can be used to predict a portion of future trades between users in a C2C commercial network.

eHarmony "New Profile Questions" globe

I do not think/believe eHarmony outsources matchmaking as suggested in this post.

eHarmony has 2 main revenue lines:
By subscriptions.
By ads.

The Worldwide 2009 annual revenue for eHarmony was estimated in USD 250 millions.
My personal estimation is: 90% by subscriptions and 10% by ads.
eHarmony is intended for serious daters, so if any registered member does not pay, he/she cannot communicate with others, unless he/she uses the (low performance) Free Communication Weekends.

I do not think eHarmony could *easily* increase its conversion rate to increase its revenue by subscriptions, it will be easier to improve its revenue by ads. eHarmony could be testing its ownads platform and contrasting that platform with other proposals, like the one offered by VisualDNA or the one offered by SenseArray.

eHarmony needs to deliver the correct ads to its members to achieve a high CTR.

If you are an eHarmony user right now, you will see the "New Profile Questions" globe when you log in. It clearly says "Tell us more about your interests. Find out what interests you share with your matches. Note: This information is not used for matching"

The 2010 annual revenue for PlentyOfFish is expected to be USD30 millions, more or less the same amount eHarmony could earn by ......... ads.
